BJP leaders Subramanian Swamy, Manoj Tiwari and Vijay Goel on Monday joined the hunger strike led by BJP’s Maheish Girri outside Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s residence.
Kejriwal, on Monday, demanded that Giri be arrested in connection with the murder of NDMC official MM Khan even as he accused the Prime Minister of “shielding” him.
Khan was murdered a day before he was scheduled to pass the final order on the lease terms of a hotel, which was functioning on a property leased by the civic body.
Girri continued his hunger strike for the second day in a row, demanding that Kejriwal proves the allegations made in a letter that he sent to Lieutenant Governor (LG) Najeeb Jung, in which he accused Jung of trying to “save” Girri and Delhi Municipal Council vice-chairman Karan Singh Tanwar.
I want to go to the people’s court. Either he should prove the allegations or he should resign. He should accept that he has made a mistake.Maheish Girri, BJP MP
Responding to Girri’s comments, the Delhi CM on Monday questioned BJP’s motives, asking the party if public debates for murder cases is its way of seeking criminal justice.
Swamy, who joined the protest on Monday, slammed CM Kejriwal for his allegations and has asked for Najeeb Jung’s dismissal over the issue.
Delhi Police had last week given Girri and NDMC vice-chairman Karan Singh Tanwar a clean chit in the case, claiming that the investigators had not come across any evidence against them in the probe into Khan’s murder.
The AAP reacted with sharp criticism, alleging that the Delhi Police was acting as the “spokesperson” for the BJP leaders. The party’s Delhi unit convenor Dilip Pandey demanded Tanwar and Girri should first be arrested and their call records probed.
Pandey had also alleged that a cover letter to Najeeb Jung’s office was also forwarded by Girri, who had taken Ramesh Kakkar – the main accused in Khan’s murder – to the LG’s office.
