Good news, bad news, starting September 1 banks will remain closed second and fourth Saturday of every month.

For all those of us who postpone bank work to Saturdays, the government just made life difficult.

But, this is good news for lakhs of government employees across the country.

Bankers have been demanding this for a long time.

The notification regarding Saturday off has come. It is effective from September 1.
— C H Venkatachalam, General Secretary, All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) to PTI

The decision is for banks in the public as well as the private sector.

In case of a month having five Saturdays, banks will be closed only on second and fourth Saturdays.
