Three Muslim men were allegedly beaten up by Hindu Yuva Vahini (HYV) workers in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat on 14 Sunday. The HYV members accused the three men of kidnapping and forcibly converting a Hindu woman. However, Navbharat Times reports that the woman, who hails from Punjab, had come to Baghpat to wed one of the three men, who also hails from Punjab.
According to the report, HYV workers stormed the court premises and accosted the group. They reportedly called more HYV men to the site and beat up the three men, forcing the police to intervene. The three men and the woman were taken to the police station. According the report, the police found that the couple had run away from home four days ago. An FIR also had been lodged at Barnala police station in this regard. The police said they had informed their counterparts in Barnala, who were en route to UP.
The report states that HYV workers followed the police back to the station, where they staged a demonstration with chants of "Jai Shree Ram".
Kuldeep Thakur, District Vice President of HYV told the Hindi daily that the outfit would file an FIR in the case, alleging that it was a case of forced conversion and “love jihad”.
