Aylan Would Become a Harasser, Had He Lived: Charlie Hebdo Cartoon

French satirical newspaper Charlie Hedbo has sparked off controversies yet again with it’s latest cartoon portraying Aylan Kurdi.

Three year old Syrian refugee, Aylan Kurdi’s body was found washed up on a Turkish shore after a boat carrying refugees had sunk.

The cartoon asks a question, “What would have become of little Aylan if he lived?” The answer to which is “He would have been an ass groper in Germany.”

The family members of Aylan has expressed grief and disgust at the humour displayed by Charlie Hebdo.

News reports of drunk assylum seekers mugging and molesting women at the German city of Cologne flooded in, on New Year’s Eve.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has resisted domestic pressure to introduce a formal cap on the numbers, repeating her “We can do this” mantra to Germans. But the Cologne attacks have deepened scepticism among the population.

Following this German ministers outlined plans on Tuesday to speed up the deportation of foreigners who commit crimes, responding to sexual attacks on women by migrants in Cologne.

While many have criticized the depiction of Alan Kurdi in the cartoon, few others have stated that the cartoon is only a satire on Europe’s sympathy for refugees that has been oscillating between far ends after the mass assault in Cologne.
