Asiatic Lion Rescued From 100 Feet Dry Well in Gujarat

A four-year-old Asiatic Lion was rescued from a 100 feet dry well in Gujarat, without the use of tranquilisers.

• A four-year-old Asiatic lion, who had accidentally fallen into a 100 feet dry well in Jadakla village in Amreli district, was rescued and later released into the Gir forest, officials said today.
  

Several women from the village last morning saw the lion chasing buffaloes in the farm of one Mayabai Ahir. As the women screamed, the lion changed its route and accidentally fell into the well. After getting information, forest officials rushed to the spot and rescued it using a thick rope nearly after four hours. Initially, a veterinary team entered the well to find out whether the lion has sustained any injuries. After it was found that the animal did not suffer any injuries, he was pulled out.

• According to the officer, the forest officials did not tranquilise the lion for pulling him out from the well.
  

The maximum temperature was over 43 degrees Celsius and hence it was not advisable to tranquilise him. After pulling out, the lion was kept under observation for eight hours and then released into the Gir forest last night.
