A German national, Holger Erik, was beaten up at Uttar Pradesh’s Robertsganj railway station on Saturday.

The police have arrested the accused, and an investigation is underway. Aman Yadav, the accused, however denied charges to attacking the German national. Speaking to ANI, he said:

I am innocent, the German national punched me when I told him ‘welcome to India’. He even spit on me.

Meanwhile Anant Kumar, Assistant Director General for Law and Order in Uttar Pradesh said that Erik too had previous complaints against him, including the fact that his visa had expired and his passport was earlier impounded.

Complaints have been lodged from both sides. Some people complained about the German national earlier too. I think he has some depression issues.

A Hindustan Times report states that Erik was beaten up by Yadav for allegedly ignoring his greeting. According to the daily, Erik had de-boarded at Robertsganj and was looking for directions to the Agori fort, when Yadav approached him.

When Erik ignored Yadav’s greeting, the latter was enraged, pushing him to the ground. Yadav also sapped Erik a number of times, the police told HT.

A passerby, who happened to see the scuffle, alerted the police and a case has been registered against Yadav, who is an electrician with a private company.

Erik was referred to Mirzapur hospital for his injuries.

This episode comes days after a Swiss couple was attacked by a group of local boys in Fatehpur Sikri.
