An eight-year-old was crushed by a moving apartment lift on Sunday morning, in Karmanghat, Hyderabad. The boy, who has been identified as Cholangi Venkata Tashwanth, had been peeping out of the pit below the elevator to watch it come down. His head was crushed by it when it made its descent.Tashwanth was playing with his younger brother Srinath in the cellar of the apartment building minutes before the incident. The lift came down with a forceful impact, crushing into his head and trapping him between itself and the parapet.
Srinath pressed the elevator button and as the car was hurtling down, Tashwanth thrust his head out into the partially open portion of the elevator shaft to watch the descending lift. The elevator car crushed Tashwanth’s head and he bled to death.S Lingaiah, Saroornagar Inspector told The Times of India
His father, Srinivasa, works as a watchman in the apartment, while his mother works as a domestic-help-worker.
According to the police, the lack of safety grills around the lift was a big reason why the boy didn’t survive the accident.
The devastated parents did not wish to file a case, because they didn’t want their child to be mutilated. They were later convinced by the police and the body was sent to Osmania General Hospital, according to The Times of India.
Until the investigation, the police have filed a case under section 174 of CRPC (death under suspicious circumstances).
