I have got 84.8% in PCM in class 12. I got 55 marks in JEE Main. I am interested in physics. What are the best courses I should opt for?
Kulbhushan Mehta, The Quint’s reader

Hi Kulbhushan,

You can apply for courses like BSc in Applied Physics, Physics (Hons) or BSc Programme if you are interested in Physics. All these programmes have a good scope in the future. You can pursue Masters i.e. MSc in the same field and foray in the research field. Other than these courses, here are some science courses that you consider.

There are various universities including Delhi University (DU), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Indraprastha University, etc. that offer excellent science and physics programmes. These are some of the top science colleges of DU that you can consider.

The counselling for COMEDK UGET has not started yet. It is, therefore, difficult to tell the colleges where you can secure a seat in the CSE Programme.

However, the following are some of the colleges in Bangalore where you can apply:
· Krupanidhi Group of Institutions
· Acharaya Institute of Technology
· New Horizon College of Engineering
· CMR Institute of Technology
· M.V.J. College of Engineering
· SJB Institute of Technology
· Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering

There are some good private colleges where can apply for the CSE programme. Check out this list of the top private engineering colleges in India.

I scored 91 marks in JEE Main 2017 with a rank of 89826. Is there any hope for admitting myself into an NIT? I belong to the General category, I’m from Assam.
Ankuran Borah, The Quint’s reader

Hi Ankuran,

You have 50% chance of getting into NIT in your choicest specialisation. Since the number of NIT’s has increased, you can get through to NIT. We suggest that you keep checking out the cut-off lists till it reaches your rank. You have greater chances of getting through the newer NIT’s like Silchar, Surathkal, Surat, Bhopal, Allahabad, Hamirpur & Jalandhar.

In the interim, we suggest that you take admission in a college that you get. Once you get through to an NIT, then you can cancel your admission and take admission in NIT.

However, if you are open to exploring other options apart from B. Tech, you should seriously consider that as well.

I had passed my class 12 last year and I’ve scored 90.4% in PCB. I appeared for NEET 2017 and expecting my score around 400-410. I know my score isn’t enough to get a MBBS seat. I’m very confused about what to do next. Would you please tell me what should I pursue ? Which field has much scope? Also tell me best colleges where should I apply for respective courses in Himachal and Chandigarh.
Sonali Verma, The Quint’s reader

Hey Sonali,

Since you appeared for NEET, your subject combination in Class 12 should have been Physics, Chemistry & Biology. With this subject combination, you have various options that you can pursue after studying Science in Class 12, apart from engineering and management like:

· Food Technology
· BSc Biotechnology
· BSc Genetic Science and Chemistry
· BSc Material Sciences
· BSc Food Science
· BSc Agriculture
· BSc Agroforestry
