A woman and her two daughters killed themselves in Delhi's Vasant Vihar on Saturday, 21 May, by converting their house into a 'gas chamber.'

The bodies of the three deceased were found in a flat with four purported suicide notes, as per news agency PTI.

The notes revealed that the 50-year-old woman, Manju, and her daughters Anshuta and Ankita, aged 26 and 30, had died due to gas poisoning and they had planned everything well in advance. They also carried instructions warning the readers to avoid inhaling the hazardous air in the room, or lighting a match.

The alleged suicide note read:

"Too much deadly gas. Carbon monoxide inside. It's flammable. Please ventilate the room by opening the window and opening the fan. Do not light match, candle or anything!! Be careful while removing the curtain because room is full of hazardous gas. Do not inhale."

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the family had been planning their death for the past few months, PTI reported, citing the police.

3 Bodies Found Next to 3 'Angithis'

The doors and windows of the flat were sealed with a foil-like substance, blocking sight and ventilation. The gas cylinder knob had been left opened and an angithi (coal burner) was also burning. The police found the three bodies in one bedroom with three coal burners next to them, as per the police.

"After receiving a call at 8.55 pm today, the police staff along with the SHO reached Vasant Apartment in Vasant Vahar and found all the doors and windows closed from every side. On checking the inner room three bodies were found lying on the bed and three small 'angithis' were kept in the room. It is presumed that they died due to suffocation," the police was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

The neighbours of the family said that Manju, the mother, had been upset since her husband's death due to COVID-19 last year, as per reports.

A further probe into the matter is underway.
