In a major blow to Karnataka Congress, the state minister for Urban Planning and Development KJ George has been named the first accused in an FIR in the death of Mangaluru DySP K Ganapathy, news agency ANI reported.
Mangaluru DySP K Ganapathy committed suicide in a Madikeri lodge on July 7 last year. He had spoken to a local Kannada channel in which he accused the senior officials and the minister of harassment.
The Supreme Court had handed over the probe to the CBI in September.
Along with George, IGP Lokayukta Bengaluru Pranov Mohanty and ADGP State Intelligence AM Prasad are also named as accused in the CBI FIR.
Karnataka BJP President BS Yeddyurappa asked for removal of KJ George from his state Cabinet post. He further added that the party will launch a state-wide agitation if George is not removed.
When asked about the FIR, KJ George told reporters, “Let CBI complete the investigation, we will let law take its course.” On Yeddyurappa’s demand for his resignation George said, “He has asked for it several times, he has no case against me.”
In September 2016, KJ George was given a clean chit by the CID.
