The Election Commission has decided to hold the by-elections for four Assembly seats that fell vacant owing to different reasons on 23 August. The elections will held in Bawana in Delhi, Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh, and Valpoi and Panaji in Goa, reported ANI.
Goa CM Manohar Parrikar will reportedly contest from the Panaji constituency, as he is expected to hold the post of MLA within six months of taking over as CM. He resigned from his post as defence minister to become Goa CM in March this year. The Panaji constituency is currently represented by a close aide of Parrikar, Siddharth Kuncalienkar, reported Indian Express.
The Bawana seat in Delhi fell empty after the AAP MLA from the constituency defected to join the BJP. According to Times Of India, AAP has decided to field party worker Ramchandra, who had earlier fought the 2008 election on a BSP ticket.
The Nandyal seat in Andhra Pradesh fell vacant after the TDP legislator representing the constituency Bhuma Nagi Reddy passed away in March.
