7 Indian Companies Make it to fortune 500 List, Indian Oil at 161

Asia is now home to 197 of the 500 companies, according to the latest list that has come out.

Seven Indian companies have made it to the latest Fortune 500 list, which ranked companies by their revenues in 2016.

Among Indian firms, Indian Oil Corp is ranked highest at 161st, while another state-run firm, ONGC, has moved out of the rankings for 2016. Private gems and jewellery major, Rajesh Exports, has made its debut at 423rd position.

Among the seven Indian companies, four are from the public sector while Reliance Industries is the top-ranked among private sector firms, followed by Tata Motors and Rajesh Exports.

Also, Asia is now home to 197 of the 500 companies, relocating North America (145) and Europe (143) to the second and third spot.

The overall list was topped by Walmart with revenue of US $482,130 million, followed by State Grid (revenue of US $329,601 million) and China National Petroleum (US $299,271 million) at the second and third place respectively.

The US still continues to have 132 firms on the list, with China closely behind with 109 companies. The third spot is claimed by Japan, with 51 companies.
