Domestic equity benchmarks remained under pressure on Friday, 16 August, as benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty ended flat in the closing session.
BSE Sensex rose over 38 points, an increase of 0.10 percent, to close at 37,350.33 in the closing session. The Nifty50, on the other hand, increased 18.40 points to close at 11,047.80, an increase of about 0.17 percent.
The stocks of PSU banks that were on buyers' radar included Canara Bank, Punjab National Bank, Bank of India, Union Bank, Bank of Baroda, a Moneycontrol report said.
Earlier during the day, Sensex dropped over 300 points in early trade, tracking losses in metal, auto, IT and banking stocks.
The 30-share index pared some opening losses to trade 248.25 points or 0.67 percent lower at 37,063.28 at around 9:30 am; and the broader Nifty, too, fell 67.45 points or 0.61 percent to 10,961.95 in the morning trade.
The stock market was closed on Thursday on account of Independence Day.
