- Giving the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India penal powers to fine for every call drop cannot be final solution, said Department of Telecommunication Secretary J S Deepak on Friday.
- TRAI had earlier asked the government for amend laws and give it powers for imposing fine of up to Rs 10 crore on operators and jail term of up to two years for their executives.
- Deepak said that the government will consider the TRAI’s demands, but added that telecom companies had committed to spend Rs 12,000 crore on installing new towers to check the problem.
