While India watched Nirmala Sitharaman, India's first full-time woman finance minister, deliver her first Budget speech of Modi 2.0 government from the parliament, her parents were present as well.
Savitri and Narayanan Sitharaman had arrived at the Parliament earlier on Friday, 5 July, ahead of the Budget speech. Nirmala's father Narayanan worked in the Indian Railways, while her mother Savitri is a homemaker, according to Business Today.
Setting a new precedent, Sitharaman was earlier seen holding the budget documents wrapped in a red cloth, the traditional ‘bahi khaata’ way, instead of the leather briefcase her predecessors carried.
