The Constitution (122 Amendment) Bill, 2014, to facilitate implementation of the goods and Services Tax (GST) was adopted in a historic vote on 3 August. The Upper House of the Parliament passed the Bill with 203 votes in support and zero in opposition after a seven hour long debate.

Six changes were made to the Bill that was passed in the Lok Sabha in the earlier sessions. These changes will prove to be elemental in the way we pay taxes in the coming years. The biggest legislation in the country after the Liberalisation, Privatisation and Globalisation (LPG) economic reforms of 1991, the vote made headlines throughout media outlets in the country.
