Aretha Franklin appeared dressed in a brilliant golden dress and high-heeled shoes aglitter with sequins for her glamorous final farewell at a Detroit church.
The Queen of Soul was transported to the Greater Grace Temple in the same vintage white Cadillac used for the funerals of civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks and the singer's father, Reverend CL Franklin, Efe reported.
Former President Bill Clinton was one of the speakers at Friday's funeral, along with other notables such as former Attorney General Eric Holder, Franklin's fellow music legend Smokey Robinson and Rev Jesse Jackson and Ariana Grande.
Condolences Pour In
#ArethaFranklinHomeGoing was also trending on Twitter.
The religious service was also attended by many stars from the world of song including Stevie Wonder, Faith Hill, Ronald Isley, Chaka Khan, Jennifer Hudson and Fantasia.
‘Stop Politicising the Funeral’
Reverend Al Sharpton took aim at US President Donald Trump during Aretha Franklin’s funeral.
He told mourners at her funeral, “Trump said, ‘She used to work for me.’ No, she performed for you.”
But he faced backlash on social media for his comments.
Franklin died on 16 August at her home in Detroit after a battle with cancer. She was 76.
