Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi was detained by the Madhya Pradesh police in Neemuch, near Mandsaur under Section 151 (knowingly joining or continuing in assembly of five or more persons after it has been commanded to disperse). Gandhi jumped barricades at the border when the police intercepted him, Hindustan Times reported.

Gandhi was on his way to Mandsaur to speak to the families of deceased farmers on Thursday, despite the local administration denying him permission.

He spoke to the families of farmers over phone and is not expected to return from the Mandsaur region until he meets the farmers in person, tweeted Gandhi.

Speaking to the media, Gandhi accused the BJP government of being apathetic towards the farmers.

I just want to meet the farmers and listen to their problems. But they won’t let me. They haven’t given me a reason but they did the same in Uttar Pradesh, as well.
Rahul Gandhi
