Seems like Vijay Mallya had quite an eventful Tuesday on Twitter. Just hours after the news of his arrest and subsequent bail in London made headlines, Mallya took to Twitter to congratulate West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle for reaching the 10,000 runs milestone in T20 cricket.

Earlier in the day, the beleaguered liquor baron was arrested by the London police service Scotland Yard “on behalf of the Indian authorities in relation to accusations of fraud”. He was later granted bail by the Westminster Magistrates’ Court and is likely to be produced again before court on 17 May.

It is being said that this is a nascent but key development as regards extradition of Mallya sought by the Indian authorities for his alleged involvement in money laundering and defaulting on loan payments to the tune of Rs 9,000 crore.

Mallya, in a tweet, also criticised Indian media’s coverage of the incident, accusing them of creating a “hype”.

Meanwhile, Gayle, playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore – a team run by Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited (RCSPL) that was previously headed by Mallya – scored a crucial 77 run knock in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Gujarat Lions. The former team – languishing at the bottom of the IPL table – eventually went on to win the match by 21 runs.
