M Venkaiah Naidu took oath as India’s 13th Vice President on 11 August after defeating former West Bengal Governor and Mahatma Gandhi's grandson Gopalkrishna Gandhi, the Opposition candidate, in the vice presidential polls held on 5 August.
Naidu, a two-time Union minister and four-time Rajya Sabha member, has held portfolios like Parliamentary Affairs, Urban Development, and last as Information and Broadcasting Minister.
He succeeds Hamid Ansari, who finished his decade-long tenure as Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman, on Thursday.
