With the onset of monsoon, North-east regions experience heavy rainfall. The incessant rainfall is supposedly due to the low pressure developed in the Bay of Bengal. The low pressure that developed, affected the North-East regions, causing heavy rainfall and flooding of the Brahmaputra and it’s tributaries.
Guwahati experienced up to 106 mm rainfall that has flooded the city, claiming as many as 10 lives . Many people have gone missing ever since the horror of the flood overtook the entire region. Not only deaths, 350 houses have been damaged, and many areas have seen landslides, further aggravating the problems of monsoon.
Roads have been flooded and streets heavily waterlogged, all this has resulted in traffic jam. People are facing difficulty in commuting to their offices, while children are stuck, either in schools or in school buses stranded in the traffic. Dr Madhaiyaan Angamuthu, the deputy commissioner, Kamrup (Metro) has assured help and relief to people stuck in this situation. People have tweeted seeking help from PM Modi.
