We have 5,300 vacancies in J&K police. We had put out advertisements of the recruitment drive three months ago. 1,18,000 people applied for the posts.

About 50,000 applicants are from the Kashmir valley and 2,800 are from Srinagar itself, an official added. The entire selection is computerised & managed by an outside agency. The process is overseen by the J&K police board.

Many boys and girls turned up at the stadium for the recruitment drive, despite threats by terrorist outfits to not join the police force.

There are no businesses here anymore. We need such drives to get job opportunities. I feel we should be given a copy of our OMR sheets so we can tally our marks of the written test.

The test was in two stages: a physical endurance test and then a written test. Boys had to run and do push ups to qualify for the physical endurance test, while girls had to run and throw shot puts.
