BJP youth leader Yogesh Varshney’s shocking remark offering a Rs 11 lakh bounty for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s severed head has elicited a political storm in the Parliament.
Attacking the NDA government for protecting cows but not women, senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Jaya Bachchan said:
“Must take steps for protection of women aggressively. You are protecting cows but atrocities being committed on women,” she said.
Senior party leaders of the BJP also slammed Varshney’s comments. Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi asserted that he “condemns this type of statement,” and that the “state government can take proper action.” Union Minister Ananth Kumar too said that he condemns the remark and that nobody can make statements like these against a democratically elected chief minister.
Kailash Vijayvargiya of the BJP also said that he “does not agree with these remarks.” “There is anger against Mamataji for her appeasement politics but can’t support violence,” he said.
Trinamool Congress leader Saugata Roy retaliated to Varshney’s comments and said that “strong action must be taken against people who make such provocations.”
