The festival of Maha Shivaratri is celebrated to honour the marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. On the occasion, devotees observe day-long fasts and brave long queues at temples to catch a glimpse of the Lord Shiva deity.
Devotees offer milk, fruits and other gifts to the Shiva Linga. From Mumbai and Delhi to Varanasi and Haridwar, devotees across the country flocked to temples, which echoed with the chorus of “Om Namah Shivaya”.
