After many ATMs remained closed days after they were supposed to go online following the demonetisation move, the PM Modi-led government assured us that three out of five ATMs will now be functional.
The news came us some relief for harried Indians reeling from the crash crunch, but has the assurance been really implemented? The Quint’s reporters fanned out to find out.
In the whole of Chandni Chowk in Delhi, only one ATM was found to be working. The same was the case across many parts of Delhi-NCR.
As a result, there were long, snaking queues outside the few teller machines that were in operation. This was also true for Mumbai, where The Quint’s reporter found several ATM booths shut.
Whatever happened to your government’s promise of making sure three out of five ATMs are working, Modiji?
