Youtuber and soon-to-be-late night show host, Lilly Singh dropped a rap of Bollywood music on her channel last night. She turned the lyrics on its head and used the music to give the songs a new meaning. Singh is in India for the upcoming YouTube FanFest and this video is a collaboration with the fest.
“Every rapper talking about the shape of her body
Every movie plot about her wedding, that's her shaadi
Call me smart before you call me hottie
I am a woman with a story
yo yo you should get to know me.”
On the tune of ‘choli ke peeche kya hai’ Lilly Singh gave the otherwise highly suggestive song a respectable meaning. She takes on stereotypical objectification of women, and asks society to look at women as human beings before calling them ‘hotties’
She similarly picked up songs like, ‘All Izz Well’, wherein her rap talks about mental health and how it is okay to ask for help if one is going through a bad time in their life.
In the end, with the song ‘Aankh Marey’, her rap focuses on sexuality. It is interesting to note that Lilly Singh came out as a bisexual person only a few weeks ago and her ‘Aankh Marre’ version seems like an expression of that. It normalises bisexuality.

She talks about girl and boy crush in the same breath! Isn’t that super cool?
She explores her own bisexuality in the video to encourage fans to embrace themselves, whatever their sexual preferences may be.
"Hey boy, can I have your number? We can satisfy each other. Hey girl, can I have your cell? I think we would work really well," are some of the lyrics.
Twitter too applauded Lilly Singh’s attempt at re-writing Bollywood songs. She thanked her fans and friends alike.
You go, Liily!
