An employee - boss relationship is one-of-its-kind. While the boss is nothing without the employee’s work, the employee is nothing without the boss’s okayed salary. Perhaps that’s why, what both parties lack is genuine affection towards the other.

Unlike normal relationships which are built on honesty, the boss-employee relationship is built on dishonesty.

Case In Point

1. The employee’s absolutely fictional reasons for taking leaves (including but not limited to killing their grandparents and relatives)!

2. The boss’ ridiculous justifications for setting impossible targets

But all said and done, the relationship is also uniquely hilarious and enjoyable. Still, when it comes to handling their bosses, different people come with different instruction manuals.

While some advise getting a little over-friendly with their bosses (which has a 50% chance of landing you a great appraisal), others like to keep their interactions limited to the ‘good mornings’ and ‘thanks and regards’. But the precautions of conversing with the boss are aplenty, as the hashtag #ThingsToNeverTellYourBoss on Twitter confirms.

Tut tut, don’t they know “the boss is always right”!

Unless you want to self- sabotage your promotion chances!

Abort mission. Abort mission.

Don’t comment on any of their curves, even if it’s the smile.

Beggars are not choosers, honey.

Unless you want to get free time by being unemployed.

Sis, definitely not smarter if you said it out loud.

Not everyone likes to spill the tea (or coffee) in this case.

Although a full blown manual will be more helpful in telling us how to talk to our boss, until then we can make do with these tweets, just like we make do with our little salaries.
