At an age when people retire from their jobs and want to take a break from their hectic life, a 75 year old woman, Selavamma still works hard by selling corn, but 20 years into this job, she is trying a new method to fan the coal.
Setting her hands-free with a portable solar powered fan, she is also promoting the idea of using renewable energy. Social Media was quick to laud her by calling her a tech-savvy Bangalorean and nick-named her “Solaramma”’.
Selavamma is setting an example that solar power equipment can be friendly to use. She has been roasting corn outside the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru for about 20 years. The only difference is, she now has an innovative, productive and energy efficient way of roasting her roadside treat.
This equipment was gifted to her by an NGO, after they saw her putting so much effort into her day’s work.
She can be seen fanning the corn in her ‘before picture’. Now after her handy fan using solar energy let’s hope she inspires people to find an eco friendly substitute for coal!
Hats off to this small step by an elderly woman who keeps pace with the bright young minds of her city.
