A while back, news about the government responding to an RTI plea about a zombie apocalypse went viral, showing the kind of things the government takes time to respond to.

This has not been the first instance, however, that a nonsensical query has been submitted to the Centre, demanding an answer. In 2009, a Rajya Sabha MP, Rajkumar Dhoot, who is also the owner of Videocon, asked the space minister in the Rajya Sabha if ‘Star Wars’ can actually happen.

Yes, we get what an immersive world George Lucas gave us and in all possibility, Mr Dhoot was probably just sick of waiting for Episode VII. But really, was it important to raise such a query in the House?

Thankfully, his query was looked over and only the remotely important point raised in it was answered.

Parliamentarians like the MoS Home Affairs Kiren Rijuju also reacted to the RTI plea about the zombie apocalypse.

We can only hope the public takes note and use RTIs for more serious issues.
