Tuesday was like any other day, and it was all mangal till Khattar and Co decided to take the Millennium City past-forward and rename it from Gurgaon to Gurugram (the village of the Guru).
We know it sounds meh! But before we go all Gurugram-bashing (which most of you have already done, thanks social media), let Quint-ipedia tell you that Gurugram was the original name of the city which, over time, became Gurgaon.
And we believe the name-change was the beginning of the problems in the corporate-hub of Haryana. Let The Quint tell you why we think Gurugram is an awesome name for Gurgaon and its Gurulog.
Guru + gRam = No Crime (Hopefully!)
Shakespeare once said, “What’s in a name?”
Apparently, everything. And when you’ve got a city called Gurugram, for bhakts it’s like the the cherry on the cake. The city that’s a fusion of two holy words – Guru + Ram – is the most secular name anyone could ask for.
We just hope the sacred name will bless its people with Gram Vikas (village development) and minimum or no crime.
Gram Udyan
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is not a kattar man. He didn’t just rename the city to draw Gurulog closer to the rich heritage of Gurgaon, but to keep the focus on gram udyan (village of development). So he just went a step closer to achieve that.
How, you may ask?
Well, the millennium city is all about development and expansion. So today, you know the city as Gurugram, but once the population increases the name could be easily altered to kilogram and so on...
Sanskari Name
It seems the Khattar regime wants its people to learn respect. The government wants its Haryanvi choreys to respect their homies. The name Gurgaon encouraged men to Gur-gaon-ing women. This had to stop. The government hopes Gurugram (sounds more like Guru-gRam Rahim Singh’s school of respect) might just bring about a change in their attitude.
Traffic Jam aka Gurugram
We all know Gurgaonwallas spend most of their lives on NH8 or IFFCO Chawk (the coolest traffic hub). Khattar felt that it was time to get the USP of Gurgaon incorporated in the lives of Haryanvis. Something that people could associate Gurugram with... and what could be better than ‘traffic jam’?
Unlike other cities that have names that’ve got nothing to do with that city – like the Pink city (Jaipur), Steel city (Jamshedpur) – Khattar didn’t want to confuse people.
Vadra-Full City
Forget about us and what we think.
One person who is secretly doing the DJ Bravo’s Champion jig is Robert Vadra. He is a free man. As all his ‘illegal’ land deals are history, just like Gurgaon. Poof!
