In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Vj Bani aka Gurbani Judge talked about how she was body shamed for her muscular body. The former Roadies host said that although she loved her own body, she constantly received criticism for it as in India, only a certain kind of body is seen as perfect.
Bani points out that for women, thin is supposed to be the ideal and any change is seen as an aberration.
Bani talks about how body shaming at home is the biggest issue that needs to be tackled.
She reveals that for her, body shaming began at the age of 19, with people unable to understand her wish to work out.
Bani’s faced a lot of flak from people in the film industry. Some were just outright offensive.
Bani mentions that she has learnt some important lessons and now she knows how to deal with such people.
She goes on to say that she is happy with her body and her career and has been offered roles because of her physique.
All we would like to say is that it is hard to love yourself in the face of criticism. It is commendable that Bani not only rose above the critique but also came out stronger. You go girl!
