The week started with a video of a goof-up that took place during the crowning ceremony of Miss Universe 2015.

Last Sunday night, host Steve Harvey had announced Colombian contestant Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo as the winner and Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach as the first runner-up. Within minutes he returned on stage and apologised, saying there had been a big confusion and that Miss Philippines was the actual winner.

The video, which has been viewed over twenty-three million times on Youtube, has been doing rounds on social media.

In a video posted on Facebook by the Internet humour site Break, four little white bunnies can be seen falling asleep in four separate glasses.

The internet was divided over the video of baby bunnies nestled inside drinking glasses. Viewed over 97 million times, the clip shows the quartet sleeping, wriggling, and one nibbling at his neighbour’s ear.

Twitter Trends

#PeopleWhoMadeMyYear2015

With the countdown to new year already underway, Twitter users from across the globe on Monday, December 21, started to remember the people who left a mark in their lives in the past one year. The hashtag which originated in the United States became a global trend with hundreds of users sharing their experiences.

#JaiGangaajal

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra’s upcoming flick, Jai Gangajal became the talk of T-town with its very own hashtag. The film’s trailer showing PC playing a tough cop, who takes on the powerful and the corrupt in badlands of north India, was a hit among the twitterati.

Here are some reactions to Priyanka Chopra‘s tough cop act.

#ModiInsultsNationalAnthem

In an unusual incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was pulled back by a Russian official as he walked past the guard of honour accorded to him while the Indian national anthem was playing. This happened soon after his arrival in Moscow for a two-day bilateral visit.

Soon, the hashtag #ModiInsultsNationalAnthem started doing the rounds on Twitter.

#FeministBollySongs

Tall Claim Alert: 98% of our Hindi film songs involve a one-sided address by a man to a woman he hopes to woo. And an alarming percentage of these second-hand serenades are problematic for their casual sexism, which ranges from hilarious to offensive to seriously threatening.

Twitter, arguably the best site for a playful yet important debate on social issues, turned its incisive gaze on this tradition. #FeministBollySongs aimed to uncover the sexism inherent in our cinematic romances, and have a blast while doing it.

#ModiInPakistan #ModiInLahore

PM Narendra Modi’s surprise visit to Pakistan on Friday became a big talking point on social media. The visit, which was the first by an Indian PM in over a decade, soon began trending in India and across the border. While some welcomed it, others used humour to poke fun at Modi’s sudden visit to the neighbouring nation.
