On Tuesday, the Union Cabinet approved a Law Ministry proposal to change names of high courts through an Act of Parliament to correspond to the present names of the cities Mumbai, Chennai and Madras.
Telecom Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad announced at a press conference after the Cabinet expansion, “from now on Calcutta High Court will be known as Kolkata HC, Bombay HC as Mumbai HC and Madras HC as Chennai HC.”
Obviously, Twitterati had a few things to say about this rechristening. Most Mumbaikers don’t seem too happy with this name change.
“Bombay is a feeling” was the common opinion.
