Debate Around #CitizenshipAmendmentBill2019 Reaches Twitter

The Lok Sabha on Monday, 9 December, voted to formally introduce the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, with 293 'Ayes' as against 82 'Noes'. However, many opposition leaders from across the political spectrum branded this move by the government as “anti- Muslim”, “anti-minority”, “unlawful and unconstitutional”.

As the debate raged on in the Parliament, the Bill brought a varied set of reactions on social media. Twitter was afire with #CitizenshipAmendmentBill2019, #CABAgainstConstitution, #IndiaRejectsCAB at the top of the trending list.

‘Anti-Constitutional’, ‘Anti-Muslim, ‘Unlawful’: Many Opposed CAB

If we accept #CitizenshipAmendmentBill2019 that divides people on religious lines, tomorrow there will be another bill dividing people on caste. The bill is against the spirit of Indian constitution.
