Is the size of your waist smaller than the breadth of an A4 piece of paper? If yes, then congratulations, you have passed the paper thin or the A4 waist challenge. As crazy it might sound it is equally horrifying.

This bizarre challenge gained popularity when it started trending on Weibo, a micro blogging website in China, and hundreds of people showed off their “paper-thin” waists. Well, to add a little perspective here, a width of an A4 paper is 8.267 inches or 21 cms precisely.

The Chinese have always had some absurd defining criteria for beauty and fitness. While the reverse praying and the collar bone challenge are passe now, this new thin waist challenge tells you exactly how “healthy” you are.

Although there are many proud women that have passed this fitness test with flying colors, this one is not away from criticism either. It gives unrealistic goals to people and also sets up preposterous standards of beauty and fitness.

The challenge is to encourage women to use A4 sheet of paper and measure their waist using it as a yardstick. If there is no tummy sticking out of the sides of the sheet of paper, then the person is considered to be in good shape.

The women who have been so enthusiastically engaging in this weird challenge say that attaining the A4 waist size is their aim. Which is clearly a ridiculous thing to aim for.
