Jyoti Chahar recently won UC Blogstar, an award by the UC News’ WeMedia program, for her blog. While many were quick to congratulate her, not many know the story behind The Moi Blog.
When you start reading Jyoti Chahar’s story, the first thought that will spring to mind is the fact that she is your average Indian girl.
Jyoti, who hails from Haryana, was under pressure from her extended family to get married. She moved to Delhi, along with her family, so that she could complete her education. Not exactly a story that you’ve never heard before, now is it?
So, why are you here reading about her?
Because Jyoti’s story is also that of grit, courage and determination. After her father lost his memory in an accident, Jyoti was forced to find work at a media house in order to support their family.
She worked at a call centre for some time before she got a job at a well-known media house. As luck would have it, just when her family was in dire need of money, she was fired from this job along with many others. It was around this time that Jyoti started The Moi Blog. Jyoti says her blog helped keep her sane during the trying times.
What She Lost And What She Found
The first time Jyoti’s father got lost, they found him on routes familiar to him, that led to his village. They were able to bring him back home. Eventually, her father began to recover and was advised to resume work, she writes in her blog.
Her father got lost again, near Mahipalpur this time. While Jyoti now earns enough, via her blog, to support her family, her father is still missing.
“Main aaj bhi unka intezaar karti hoon....roz,” she writes.
