It’s the time of the year that kids have been eagerly waiting for! Summer vacations are on and now they can have some real fun.
Gruelling school schedules and additional pressure from tuition classes eat up most of their day, with many kids choosing to spend the few free hours they have glued to gadgets. It can all get quite monotonous, to say the least. And this two-month window gives children a much needed break, while also allowing them to escape the heat.
So how can children use this time well? During the summer holidays, children must be allowed to give studies a break (they still have to finish their holiday homework though). Let them unwind by allowing them to explore some fun activities that they may not be able to otherwise find the time for.
1. Pack Your Bags and Take That Long-Due Family Trip
It is exciting to take a trip to grandmas’ every vacation, but why not pack your bags for a place you haven’t visited before? Family vacations provide a perfect opportunity to bond with your children. What’s more, it gives children a chance to experience different cultures, and see new sights – they’ll make memories that will help them learn more.
Don’t like touristy spots? How about a trek? Or a camping trip? Star-gazing with your children, far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, will be something you’ll always cherish.
2. How About Spending Some Time Outdoors?
Kids today learn to use gadgets well before they can even walk. Many children tend to stay indoors with their choice of gadgets instead of going out to play.
This summer vacation, set an example by putting your own gadgets down and heading out for some outdoor fun. Cycle around the park for an hour, go swimming, play some tennis – the options are endless. You never know, your kids may just develop a taste for an activity and choose to continue it even after the summer vacations are over.
3. Make Them Wish They Could Attend Hogwarts
Kids can use the extra time on their hands to pick up some books, other than the ones prescribed in school. Let them explore the magical world of Hogwarts, the wonderland of Alice and adventures of Narnia. Allow your child to read books that interest them. Better yet, take a trip to the local library.
The idea is to inculcate a habit of reading. Not only will this develop their imagination, but it will also help your child hone their interests, explore new ideas, and improve focus while they’re at it.
4. Capture it All in a Scrapbook
Letting your kids make a scrapbook, capturing all the fun activities they did during the summer vacations, is a great idea. Scrapbooking can be rewarding as it helps children unleash their creative side. What’s more, at the end of all that (sometimes messy) work, your kids will have something tangible to remember after the summer’s long over.
And your family can always revisit these memories by turning the pages of the scrapbook later. What’s not to like?
5. DIY Your Way To a Fun Summer
It’s hard to pick up a hobby during regular school days. Summer vacations are ideal for cultivating a new hobby or exploring passion for new things and activities. Sign your child up for a hobby class. From pottery and gardening, to dancing and music, to crafts and cooking, there’s something for everyone. Better yet, sign up for a class that you can attend together. Hobby classes are a great way for your children to make new friends and develop varied interests.
Don’t worry if you can’t find a class that your children are interested in. With a plethora of options on the internet, just use some online tutorials (Hello, YouTube!) for some DIY fun at home.
Taking interest in an activity beyond school curriculum can enrich your child’s perspective. Some hobbies may stay with your child even when they go back to school. A summer that is both productive and fun? Where do we sign up?
