Roughly a week before the Australian Open, Serena Williams discovered she was pregnant. Physically she felt a little different. She had unexpectedly thrown up at one point and her breasts had enlarged. On being prodded by a friend, she took a pregnancy test to prove her friend wrong.
Little did the tennis super-star know, that not only would she test positive, but also flaunt the covers of Vanity Fair magazine in the months to come, leaving us swooning over the mommy-to-be.
A peek at the August 2017 cover shows us Serena as the cover girl, baring it all, an epitome of power and strength! Here’s the image tweeted by Vanity Fair:
The issue’s cover story ‘Serena Williams’s Love Match’, recounts the tale of Serena and her fiance, Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit. Right from their first date – a magical six hours in Paris – to their plans for the baby’s arrival, Vanity Fair dwells into the couple’s entire history.
Here’s how Tweeple reacted to the cover photo tweeted by Vanity Fair:
The Resounding Applause!
On a comment that claimed, “She cannot stand being out of the spotlight”, this apt analogy drove home the point:
Haters Gonna Hate, No Matter What!
If all that wasn’t enough, her calibre as a player was dragged in too!
We can’t even begin to point out how problematic and redundant the body-shaming is, along with the questions raised about her calibre as a player, based on her gender. All we can say is, the hater are going to forever hate. The photo-shoot stands for a lovely thing and we wish Serena our best!
