Welcome to the country’s greatest show – the Nashik Kumbh Mela. Every year, millions of people from across the globe flock to it in droves. Why, you ask? Well, to take a dip in the holy waters and chant hymns, of course (like Haridwar wasn’t enough!)

But is washing away sins the only reason that people come to Kumbh Mela? We’re thinking, not.

The Kumbh Mela provides lucrative incentives to its devotees. And they’re not just spiritual but also materialistic goodies. The Quint has put together a list of all the reasons you may want to travel to the Kumbh Mela!

Looking For Your Lost Twin

This is no joke. I mean, surely you remember Kumbh ke mele mein bichhde huye bhai? The line that redefined Bollywood familial ties, gave Kumbh Mela a new identity. Thanks to all that patronage, Kumbh Mela is no longer a celebration of faith but also about finding your long lost brother!

Water, Water Everywhere

Are the rising temperatures and constant water crises making you lose your cool? Just chill – and head to Nashik. A long and luxurious bath in the sacred Godavari will wash away your sin, of course (as it is meant to) – but it’ll also soak up your sweat!

Did Anyone say Extra Condoms?

From ‘looking for your twin’ to ‘ taking the holy dip’ – find out what makes people visit Kumbh Mela.

We’re sorry to do this to you. What we’re going to say will probably shatter the belief of millions but apparently, the holy Kumbh Mela is turning out to be quite a kinky meeting ground. According to media reports, around 5.4 lakh condoms have been shipped to Nashik to meet rising demands.

And that’s not even the most astonishing part. Apparently, the average monthly requirement of the city is 1.5-2 lakh condoms. Now, that’s the number to stare at!

But hey, whose complaining?

Boom Bhole Nath

From ‘looking for your twin’ to ‘ taking the holy dip’ – find out what makes people visit Kumbh Mela.

From the ‘boom boom’ to the big Bam (Bhole Nath). When in Kumbh Mela, do as the mela folk do – say the lord’s name and take a puff to honour Shiva.

Shiva has always been known as the chillum-smoking-God and hence, the easy crowd favourite. And what better place than the Kumbh Mela to light up in your quest for ‘enlightenment’ among ash-smeared, semi-naked sadhus? Har Har Mahadev!
