Dungarees and Dior are an unlikely pair; and yet, Rihanna has managed to wear both up her sleeves, and quite neatly at that.
Dior will make Rihanna its first black spokesperson, says Dazed Digital. The fashion house is almost seventy years old, and was launched on December 16, 1946.
RiRi, the 27-year-old pop star would front the label’s “Secret Garden” campaign this spring.
“It is such a big deal for me, for my culture, for a lot of young girls of any color,” the singer told MTV News. “To be acknowledged by Dior means a lot, as a woman.”
Dior’s creative director Raf Simons is quite excited to have Rihanna as its face. Although interestingly, Raf was criticised by famous casting director James Scully in 2013 for using only white models on Dior’s Runway, according to Daily Mail.
Fashion biggie Anna Wintour, too, lapped praises at Rihanna in the past, saying that “incredible style can help take a talented young woman from a small island to the world stage, and along the way spark a lot of conversation about elegance and empowerment.”
