This infant can rightfully claim the title of ‘water baby’. At the tender age of two, he fearlessly dives several feet underwater and holds his breath as he goes in without an oxygen mask.

Young Fedor Afonasiev has learnt the sport from his parents who are professional freedivers themselves. Recorded by another professional freediver from Russia, Alexey Molchanov (29), the video shows how the child is already quite comfortable underwater.

Alexey says that with Fedor, he sees a child who naturally follows the passion of his parents. He had originally begun to film Fedor so that he could make some education videos out of the footage for his Freediving Federation education agency.

We think it is important for freediving to be a fun activity for kids. When people see it, they cannot believe how good Fedor is underwater and that actually motivates them to start learning freediving as well.

Alexey maintains that there is no competitive approach for kids, and that they encourage Fedor to do whatever he is comfortable with. They never push him for numbers.

Alexey is an experienced freediver who can hold his breath for 8 minutes and 33 seconds, and holds a world record for diving 423 feet underwater with fins. He recorded the footage with a GoPro camera.
