A video of members of the Aam Aadmi Party celebrating a potential victory in Punjab has gone viral on social media. The video shows senior party leader, Sanjay Singh, surrounded by party members, tracking the counting of votes.

The members are seen singing songs and congratulating each other about AAP’s eminent victory in the state. Speaking to Bhagwant Mann over the phone, Singh even asks jokingly, if Mann would like to be the Chief Minister of the state.

Singh announces that Mann is leading in Jalalabad by 50,000 votes. He adds that the party has crossed 100 seats in the 117-member assembly.

He’s heard saying “11 March ka live dekh rahe hai (We are watching 11 March’s live).”

In reality, however, the outcome of the Punjab election was quite the opposite for AAP. The party, in its first national venture, won 20 seats in the election but did emerge as the largest opposition party.

For Mann too, the election was not as described in the video. He lost in Jalalabad to Shiromani Akali Dal president, Sukhbir Singh Badal, by nearly 20,000 votes.

Sanjay Singh later responded saying it was an old video that was taken on 4 February –polling day.

He wrote on Twitter, “This video is from 4 February. After polls ended, we were sitting together and joking. This is not a Talibani party, we have the freedom to laugh and joke.”
