This year’s Cannes Film Festival has been huge step forward for gender equality and women’s representation in the entertainment industry.
Earlier this week, Cate Blanchett and Agnès Varda led a women's march on the Cannes red carpet, to highlight the shocking difference in the number of women directors who got a chance to showcase their movies at the festival, as compared to their male counterparts.
Not much later after the historic march, Hollywood actor and teen icon, Kristen Stewart openly defied the film festival’s ‘No Flats’ or ‘Heels Only’ policy for women attendees, by removing her shoes midway on the red carpet and walking barefoot.
Stewart is well known for her activism and this is not the first time that she has made such a statement. Kristen has been spotted wearing sneakers on the red carpet on several occasions and speaking out against regressive fashion rules.
Stewart’s applaud-worthy gesture caused quite a stir on Twitter, with many users commending the actor for ‘speaking’ up.
Here’s to many more ceiling-shattering moments, take a bow Kirsten Stewart. We heart you.
