On 13 May in Kolkata, a 21-year-old took on her molester head on. According to a report by the Times of India, the incident took place in Kolkata’s Survey Park area at 10.45 p.m.
A 28-year-old man named Subodh Sharma allegedly came on his bike and made obscene gestures at the girl. Sharma then reportedly made a U-turn, touched the girl inappropriately and shouted slurs at her.
“The girl immediately grabbed the right hand of the accused, lunged onto the bike and managed to pull at a helmet hanging from the rear end of the bike. Taken by surprise, Sharma slammed the brakes. As soon as he did that, the girl jumped onto the bike.”Reports the Times of India
The girl is a third year English honours student and is also a mountaineer.
The accused Subodh Sharma was caught by surprise at the girl’s presence of mind and speed of action. The girl jumped onto the bike and used her hands to shut his eyes. Meanwhile, Sharma started biting her hands. The girl’s hands started bleeding and she was screaming in pain. Yet, she managed to shout so loud that the neighbours heard her and then came out to support her.
What makes the effort praiseworthy was that when the girl raised an alarm, the neighbours responded immediately. The accused was slapped several times before he was handed to us.Investigating officer to the Times of India
The cops are now investigating the accused who reportedly works at a family-owned shop. The cops have also promised to increase patrolling in the Survey Park area as incidents of molestation had been o the rise in that particular locality.
