The internet’s latest discovery is a Justin Trudeau lookalike. Reportedly from Afghanistan, Salam Maftoon found himself in the spotlight after singing at a talent show, Afghan Star.
A video of his performance was uploaded on YouTube by the channel, which had everyone deeming him as the Canadian prime minister’s twin.
Maftoon is reportedly a wedding singer from a remote village in Badakhshan and is part of the Top 8 contestants of Aghan Star. In an interview with AFP, the 29-year-old singer claims he did not know who Justin Trudeau was until he saw photos on social media.
Maftoon hopes that this newfound fame in looking like one of the most good-looking world leaders will help increase his chances of winning votes on the show.
“People have forgotten my name now. They just call me ‘Justin Trudeau’” said the contestant.
Photos of the doppelgängers have been doing the rounds on social media and netizens can’t get over this coincidence!
What Are The Odds?
Maftoon also mentioned how he would like to meet the Canadian prime minister. While Canadian social media has also discovered their prime minister’s lookalike, has anyone informed Justin Trudeau? Who wouldn’t want to find their doppelgänger!
‘Doppleganger Spotted’
Social media is a treasure trove. Maftoon shooting to fame is oddly reminiscent of Arshad Khad’s story, the Pakistani ‘Chaiwala’ who shot to fame after the internet branded him their #ManCrushEveryday. He was discovered by a photographer, who uploaded a few photos of him - that took the internet by storm. It was later discovered that Khan was not from Pakistan, but Afghanistan.
Post his social media fame, Khan went on to sign modelling contracts and even star in a music video. If this is any kind of a prelude, then maybe Abdul Salam Maftoon is not wrong in hoping to win Afghan Star.
