Superstar Rajinikanth’s latest feature film has grabbed headlines for the right reasons and wrong, in the run up to its release on 7 June.
Kaala, which features Thalaivar in the lead role, has been facing bans in Karnataka due to protests from the Kannada-speaking community. Even after receiving a last-minute reprieve from the Supreme Court, the usual rambunctious atmosphere that accompanies a Rajini film release was missing from the streets of Chennai.
American production Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which released on the same day in 4 languages across 2300 screens to Kaala’s 2000 in the country, was predicted to be the box office challenger to the Rajini starrer.
In the run up to the release, #JurassicWorld trumped #Kaala on Twitter.
