Journalist Harassed on the Streets of Delhi, Stalked for 20 Mins

Journalist harassed in broad daylight in Delhi, bike-borne offenders damage her car.

A journalist from a leading media house was allegedly harassed by two bike-borne offenders in Delhi NCR. Journalist Nikita Jain narrated her ordeal on Twitter and urged the Delhi Police to take action against such eve-teasers.

According to her post, after leaving her office, located in Film City (Noida Sector 16A), she noticed she was being followed by two men on a bike.

I was driving back from work today afternoon from Filmcity Noida. Enroute, I noticed two miscreants following me on a bike behind my car. I tried to dodge them and the ordeal continued for at least 20 minutes.

Further, she says that the offenders attempted to block her way but she kept her pace and continued driving. At a red light near Akshardham, she tried to confront them, but they passed “lewd comments” as she rolled down her windows.

They tried blocking my way but I somehow managed to keep up with the pace of the car and continued driving amid other vehicles. This was near Akshardham when I took a halt at a red right and rolled down my windows to give them a piece of my mind...

They stood next to me and passed lewd comments. Hearing those, I thought to myself that ignoring such fools would perhaps be the right thing to do at that time. The signal turned green and they continued following me.

This was not all. The bike-borne men smashed the rearview mirror of her car and sped away. Thankfully, she reached home safe.

Next thing I know, they smashed the rear view mirror on the driver’s side of my car, sped and ran away. All of this in BROAD DAYLIGHT in Delhi. I failed to note down the bike’s number. I noticed the mirror was broken but all I wanted to do was get home safe.

Enraged by this incident, Nikita pens down her emotions. 

Do women not deserve to drive around in the national capital without fear? I am now based out of Mumbai but I have alwahs felt immense love for Delhi. Incidents like these make me feel I have no reasons to come back to this city anymore.

Delhi Police responded to her tweet, asking her to file a formal complaint on their website, delhipolice.nic.in, so that necessary action can be taken.

I fail to understand how you’d track those two men, since the entire stretch where the incident took place is devoid of CCTVs. But I will still file a complaint this time. Only because I want to entrust @dtptraffic that such incidents should not go unnoticed. https://t.co/w9N6raSUzK
