What is the right time to start preparing for national level entrance exams? Which institute is the best? For Indian parents, this is nothing less than rocket science. If it were left to some of them, they’d even read out calculus formulas to babies still in the womb. After all, the cut-throat competition to land seats in these prestigious institutes is no joke.

Just like this Quora user, who presumably in all seriousness, was looking for coaching institutes to tutor his son for the IIT entrance. A son who is – wait for it – in fifth standard! Yes, a ten-year-old!

Before you do a face-palm, please note that what followed this question was a torrent of sarcastic answers by Quora users (some even from IIT), calling the parent out for being unreasonable. One gentleman suggested that it is too late for the 5th standard student, as IIT preps actually start with not the aspirant but his father. Read the hilarious answer here:

After multiple pages of trolling, and some sombre reminders of ‘why there is an alarming rate of suicides in KOTA, the IIT prep hub of India’ later, in his defence, the parent updated the question with this.

Finally, someone went beyond being just sarcastic and took the trouble of breaking it down to the Indian parent.

The fact that the question was tagged with ‘Parenting Advise’ is still baffling.
