Emile Ratelband, a Dutch national, has been denied the right to change his age by a Dutch court.
What exactly brought this on?
Well, Ratelband requested a change in his age from 69 to 49! Why? Because he wanted to improve his dating prospects!
But... alas! He was denied the right to change his age by the court due to legal hold-ups. The court stated that Ratelband had no legal basis to change his age. Many laws in the country are made and implemented based on the age of an individual, said the court. The court also added that changing his date of birth would result in over 20 years of documents vanishing.
However, the court stated that Ratelband is free to feel and act as a 49-year-old!
There is more: Ratelband attempted to justify his attempt to change his age by using the example of the transgender community. He claimed his request was no different from someone legally changing their registered name or gender.
Ratelband was paticularly miffed about being “discriminated” against on the dating app - Tinder.
