As the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections gather pace, candidates and groups have increased the frequency and intensity of campaigning . While the campaigning and speeches are a common sight at at this time, students of Miranda House seem to be creating a new tradition – of protesting against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) every year.

Several alumni took to social media to congratulate the students for confronting “ABVP goons”.

A Twitter user accused the ABVP of being “nothing but an avenue for state-sponsored violence, communalism and jingoism.”

Activist Umar Khalid also posted a message in support of the students of Miranda House, where he endorsed “Defeat ABVP in Delhi University”.

Another Twitter user said, “ABVP candidates being booed off the stage by the girls of Miranda House. Very proud that my mum was a student there a long time ago”.

There were also a few people who questioned why the ABVP activists were not being allowed to campaign in student elections.

The results for the DUSU election polls will be announced on 13 September, a day after the elections are held.
